Soft Washing

Yes: soft washing is generally the only cleaning method recommended by roofing manufacturers for roof surfaces. High-pressure washing typically strips the granules from asphalt shingles, accelerating wear and potentially voiding manufacturer warranties. Soft washing uses low pressure and a cleaning solution to kill growth at the root without damaging the surface.

Soft washing results typically last 12–24 months depending on the surface, climate, and surrounding environment. Because the solution kills biological growth at the root rather than scrubbing it away, regrowth takes considerably longer than it would after pressure washing the same surface. Heritage's Residential Annual Program is designed to maintain results with scheduled spring and fall visits.

Soft washing removes algae (including Gloeocapsa Magma, the dark streaking common on North Idaho roofs), moss, lichen, mildew, and biological staining. On gutters, it removes tiger stripe oxidation and road-splash staining. On siding, it removes the green and black discoloration caused by algae and mildew growth in North Idaho's climate.

Heritage uses professional-grade solutions and takes standard precautions to protect landscaping, including pre-wetting plants near the work area and rinsing after application. Pets should be kept away from the work area during application and rinsing. Heritage will advise on any specific precautions during the on-site assessment.

Yes. Soft washing is the appropriate method for wood siding, painted surfaces, and trim. High-pressure washing can damage wood fibers, peel paint, and force water into gaps around windows and doors. Heritage's low-pressure approach cleans the surface without the risks associated with pressure washing on these materials.
